Impact Finance Belgium

What we believe

Financiers should take up their responsibility alongside businesses, social purpose organisations, citizens and governments.

Addressing the societal challenges of our times requires a wide range of investors, capital providers and funders: from engaged grant-makers to impact investors, and from private players to public actors.

Impact finance must go beyond intentions. Generating and demonstrating positive, measurable social and environmental impact is crucial.

Le Monde d'Ayden

Phitrust & Support Fund MM Delacroix

Le Monde d'Ayden's mission is to create inclusive playgrounds for all children, regardless of age or disability, while also promoting inclusion through the employment of people with disabilities.

Children with and without disabilities playing together on an inclusive playground

Investment overview

  • A EUR 100,000 long-term, zero-interest loan by the Support Fund MM Delacroix in 2020 enabled the first playground, a catalytic investment that attracted new investors like Phitrust.
  • The scale-up was a EUR 1.6 million investment: EUR 0.2m equity and a EUR 1.4m convertible loan with an 8-year duration and a 3-year grace period, disbursed against KPIs.
  • Small equity stake to limit dilution of the founder's ownership; no management or structuring fees charged.

Key lessons learned

Flexible financial instruments are important, especially for early-stage ventures. They need room to pivot and adapt their targets.

The close collaboration with the mission-driven entrepreneur led to not only achieving, but even surpassing that target.
