Financing the Farm Transition: From Pilots to Practice

Upcoming · 29 September 2026

Climate risk is becoming farm risk, and food-system risk. Farmers are on the front line: unpredictable weather hits yields, production costs and farm incomes, and with them the resilience of our food production and supply chains.

Many of the practices that make farming more resilient are known: healthier soils, better water retention, diversified rotations, less dependency on external inputs. But transition needs investment and carries risk, and farmers cannot carry that risk alone. If resilient agriculture benefits the whole food system, we need new ways to share the costs, risks and value of the transition.

This third edition of the Financial Instruments for Farm Transition series brings together farmers, financial institutions, insurers, public investors, food companies and policymakers. The programme covers insurance products for farm transition, impact bonds and blended finance for agriculture, and how public funding can mobilise private capital.
